Gufram’s Radical Design Meets Pop Art

The exhibit POP ART DESIGN arrives in Finland at EMMA, Espoo’s museum of modern art, from 18 February to 10 May 2015.

It’s a thorough and precious exhibit about the exciting exchange of ideas among artists and designers of the pop era. More than 200 works and masterpieces of the XX century will fully investigate the dynamic relationship between art and design, from music to graphics and including interior design. It’s about the everyday objects and images that, starting from the sixties, have revolutionized our contemporary figurative culture. The fresh and original staging provides for communication between the masterpieces by Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Claes Oldenburg and Robert Rauschenberg, and the radical design icons produced by Gufram since the seventies. Among the Piedmontese company’s sculptural decor that most of all have become part of the collective unconscious, the couch BOCCA, which acts as a counterpart to Marilyn Monroe’s lips; the original settee PRATONE, which represents the hippy spirit of the time; the recliner Capitello, as an allegory to classical antiquity, and the hall tree Cactus, as cult object of the domestic landscape, will be displayed.
