GUFRAM GOES OLYMPICS

Rio de Janeiro, 08 / 2016

GUFRAM @ Casa Italia, Coni headquarters in Rio de Janeiro during the 2016 Olympics.

Gufram, one of the most irreverent Italian design brands, has been invited to participate to the Casa Italia project, the Coni headquarters in Rio de Janeiro during the 2016 Olympics, from 3 to 21 August.

The historical Costa Brava Clube in Rio, designed by the architect Ricardo Menescal in the Sixties, will become the space of the Italian excellence and creativity – not only in sports but also in art and design – with a display that combines contemporary art installations and design projects. Since 1966 Gufram brings the Italian Radical Design all over the world, producing icons that combine industrial design, craftsmanship and creativity, and the brand will be present at Casa Italia with the historical Bocca sofa and the outdoor sofa Summertime.

The historical Costa Brava Clube in Rio, designed by the architect Ricardo Menescal in the Sixties, will become the space of the Italian excellence and creativity.

Bocca, the iconic red sofa designed in 1970 by Studio65 with the shape of giant lips, has been published on the covers of all the world, and it is still in the most original houses and in the most relevant museums. The Studio65 architects, being inspired by the red lips of Hollywood divas, created an object becoming a cult. The Bocca sofa, with its Pop DNA, its sensual and provocative soul, is still one of the most interesting projects of the brand.

Summertime is a project design by the artist Valerio Berruti in 2013. The mix between art and design produced this sofa wide and deep seating (ideal to accommodate three people) that reveals signs, codes and markings of the Berruti’s painting. The name of the project, edited in 250 pieces, is a tribute to one of the most famous songs of the composer George Gershwin.

The Casa Italia set is curated by Beatrice Bertini and Benedetta Acciari (Gallery Ex Elettrofonica) for the contemporary art section, and by Claudia Pignatale (Secondome gallery) for the design of interiors.
